So, back in November, during Sideshow Collectibles' Geeksgiving sales event, I purchased my first Sixth Scale figure. Utilizing reward points and free shipping, I decided on the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Boba Fett Deluxe figure, as he appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. The King of the Star Wars Bounty Hunters has always been a favorite (right behind Dengar), so the deluxe version was a bit of a no-brainer for my first figure. Well, again, behind Dengar, but he's sold out and going a little higher on the aftermarket than I was looking to spend. By no means was I disappointed. And by no means will this be my last sixth scale figure. (Not counting the Jack Sparrow prize that arrived shortly after this guy!)
The deluxe Boba Fett comes with a ton of accessories, befitting any great bounty hunter. 7 pairs of hands, 2 pairs of gauntlets, 2 heads, 2 cloaks, 2 jet-packs, rifle, pistol, flamethrower, belts, pouches, and a display stand with a nice, shiny nameplate. You can display 'ole Fett as he appeared in the movie, or you can use the alternate armor pieces to display him as he appeared in pre production designs. This is where the extra gauntlets, head, cloak, jet-pack, and all the extra hands come into play. Basically, this alternate look is a tad more colorful than the on-film look, with less green. Like his beige and yellow gauntlets, shoulder pad with a different logo, the helmet with "horns", brown gloves, and blue and yellow jet-pack. This alternate look is what I've chosen to display. I especially like the "horns" on his helmet.
The display stand, with its "crotch cradle" arm (sorry), replicates the grating from the carbonite chamber scene in ESB, and is good for mostly static poses. You'll likely forego the arm if you choose to use more dynamic poses. My display case doesn't really have enough room for more than a static pose, with the stand.
All things said, I really like this figure. I could've gone with a character that would've really shown the likeness and facial detail that Hot Toys is known for, like the Infinity War Thor I was originally aiming for, but it's Boba Fett! I hope to eventually pick up Thor, but I'm kind of waiting to see what we get from Endgame first. And I REALLY have my eye on Neo, from The Matrix.
Basically, a sixth scale figure is just a twelve inch action figure. Typically, with lots of articulation, accessories, actual tailored outfit/costume, die-cast (where appropriate, i.e. Iron Man), and tons more detail than your usual figure. You could even call them *dolls*. Whatever, call it what you want. It's a collectible. It's a display piece. And I love it! And that's how it should be. Collect what you love. Don't let anyone bring you down for it.
Until next time, you'll find me in the toy aisle.
