Hello, friends! So, I recently celebrated a birthday, my 44th to be exact, and I marked the occasion by picking up some toys, and some other geeky stuff. Of course! Nothing too fancy, though, as the main focus this year was on upgrading my phone. I went with the Samsung Galaxy S9, by the way. I'm also going to look at some recent toy announcements that have really caught my eye, along with an older release that only recently came across my radar.
The Birthday
So, I'm always looking for a bargain when I'm toy hunting, as I've chronicled in a previous column over at Comic Book Underground (I really need to copy those over here), and my latest finds were just that. Whilst cruising the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart, I discovered Rey's Speeder from the Star Wars Black Series line, originally a $60 toy, priced at only $20. You know I had to pick it up. This line is one I've been working on lately, having picked up a couple of figures from the Solo: A Star Wars Story line, along with Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars: Rebels. All at some sort of discount, of course. The Black Series is a nice line of 6 inch figures, with decent detailing and accessories, and single figures running $20-25, depending on where you find them. (I'm waiting on the Dengar figure later this year!) And the vehicle sets like this one generally run $60. So to find this at the price of a figure was a nice find!
The next additions to my collection were Funko POPs of Marko and Alana from the comic Saga. Saga is one of my favorite comics, and I am working on building my POP collection of the characters. Marko and Alana, along with their daughter, Hazel, are the primary protagonists of the story. Thanks to my purchases from the Geeky Shopping Day, and a birthday reward from Hot Topic, I had enough rewards to claim these figures at no cost to myself. Double score! They went right up on the shelf next to Ghüs. Of which the picture is now the header for this website.
Toy Envy
So, I've seen a few items lately that I really would like to acquire. Time will tell if I do, as they are all $100 or more. EEK! First up is a figure that is an older release, but she just recently showed up in one of my social media feeds. And I have fallen in love with her! That would be the Sixth Scale Baroness figure from Sideshow Collectibles. You may remember Baroness from G.I. Joe, and her look for this figure is the classic look. All black leather and armor, black hair, glasses, and weaponry. All I know is that I want this figure, and at $166, she might take a while to acquire. I found her at BigBadToyStore.com, and you can find her here.
Next up is a brand new One:12 Collective announcement from Mezco Toyz, in the form of Cyclops from the X-Men. Sporting a variation of his costume from the 90's, Scott Summers comes with a ton of articulation and accessories, as is the norm for the One:12 line. For those of you who don't know me that well, I'm a sucker for just about anything X-Men. Especially 90's era X-Men. Cyclops runs $100, and you can pre-order him here, directly from Mezco.
Finally, we have a twelfth scale figure of Hellboy from 1000toys and Dark Horse Comics. Another favorite character for me, and another figure I really want. I'm not familiar with 1000toys, but the preliminary shots of this figure look amazing. Just like the Mezco figures, this looks to have a lot of articulation and accessories. To add him to your collection, he runs around $105, and you can pre-order him here, again from BigBadToyStore.com
Well folks, I think that's it for now. I really hope you enjoy reading my offerings. If you do, click those links down there and follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. I appreciate and thank you all!
Until next time, you’ll find me in the toy aisle.
